Ani Barua first got into chess during the Garry Kasparov versus Deep Blue match in 1997. That match really inspired Ani to teach himself chess starting from learning notation to tactics and strategies.

Fast forward 2008 is when Ani played in is first USCF rated tournament at the Washington Open. It was a nice learning curve playing tournament chess for the first time in the US.

Around 2015 Ani wanted to get more involved in the local chess community beside just playing tournaments. That is when he decided to become a member-at-large in the WCF. Getting involved with Washington Chess Federation was a great way for him to give back to the chess community by volunteering in various tournaments organized by WCF.
