Rekha Sagar was initiated to chess at an early age by her father Mr. Guddappa, who was actively involved in the local chess circuit. A few of her early achievements playing chess in India include winning the State Women's Chess Championships, representing the state in the National level , being crowned as a District and State Champion in all possible age categories for a decade, and winning individual medals at the National Inter-University Championship.  Rekha also won the Cardinal Health Championship in Columbus, OH.

Rekha has been teaching chess for beginners, intermediate and advanced level players and established cooperative and effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members.

Rekha has studied Master’s in Computer Applications.  Through her career in Information Technology, she has also been involved with developing chess software for tournament usage.
